Europe, including the UK, face a dual challenge of securing affordable, reliable energy while cutting emissions at speed.
Fossil fuel volatility and geopolitical shocks highlight the risks of dependency on imports, while extreme weather events put pressure on energy systems. At the same time, some recent criticism of offshore wind has been disproportionate when compared with what the sector is already delivering and the scale of projects in the pipeline.
Offshore wind is generating a significant share of UK electricity today, and with projects like Hornsea 3 and many more in development, the industry is set to expand its contribution even further. The challenge is to recognise and unlock this potential so offshore wind can keep stabilising prices, reducing imports, and driving decarbonisation.
