Challenge

Polish district heating companies heavily rely on fossil fuels to supply end users with heat. There is a growing need to limit fossil fuel consumption and optimise the heating process. This is the first step in making the district heating more sustainable.

Solution

Ultrasonic heat meters with flange connections allow the district heating company to access real-life heat consumption data. As a result, the heating process might be optimised without the need to alter the thermal comfort of the end user. It contributes to a more sustainable and greener district heating process.

Local partner: Lublin Thermal Power Company

Lublin Thermal Power Company supplies heat to apartments, schools, hospitals, shopping centres, offices, religious buildings, sports facilities – it supplies heat to almost 75% of households in Lublin, i. 250 thousand residents.

Result

The result of the introduction of the ultrasonic heat meters with flange connections for 250000 inhabitants of Lublin allowed the company to limit the coal and gas consumption needed to heat up private homes, hospitals, schools, and institutions. It has become a first step in making the Lublin district heating more sustainable.
