Challenge

Denmark is under increasing pressure to reduce CO₂ emissions across all sectors while maintaining a resilient energy infrastructure. With the rising share of renewables in the energy mix, ensuring grid stability and providing backup power have become critical—especially at the local and residential levels.

Solution

In collaboration with an installation partner, Emaldo has deployed 22 Emaldo Core units, each equipped with a 15.3 kWh battery pack and matching solar panels, for a private homeowners’ association of 22 individual households.

This smart solution enables each household to reduce its carbon footprint by optimizing self-consumption of locally generated solar energy. Depending on the activation level of the ancillary services, each system contributes to an annual CO₂ reduction of 2.9 to 4.3 tonnes per unit.
The setup also provides energy resilience during outages and supplies ancillary services—off-grid balancing capacity that helps stabilize the national grid.

Thanks to Emaldo’s intelligent energy management system, the installation can dynamically optimize power consumption in response to electricity prices and the carbon intensity of the grid, even in winter months when solar generation is lower. This allows both economic and environmental performance to be continuously fine-tuned.

Result

With this installation, the homeowners’ association is not just consuming power more efficiently—it’s actively contributing to Denmark’s green transition and energy security.

The results include:

  • CO₂ emissions reduced by 2.9 to 4.3 tonnes annually per household

  • Enhanced energy security through dedicated local backup

  • Grid-level impact via decentralized ancillary services

  • All-season optimization using smart controls to align consumption with green, low-cost electricity—even during winter

The Bigger Picture

This is just one example of how Emaldo is accelerating the energy transition. Within the past year, we’ve installed and activated over 300 MW of battery capacity across the Nordics—empowering thousands of homes and businesses to contribute to a more stable, sustainable energy future. As we scale, our ambition is clear: to build a gigawatt-scale virtual power plant powered by clean, distributed energy—and in doing so, elevate our collective impact on the environment, the energy system, and everyday lives.
