Slovenian producer of calcium carbonate fillers, granulated products, and sands reduces energy costs by more than 15,800 Euros per year with Danfoss VLT® solutions.

The products from the company are found almost everywhere, for example in paper, rubber, plasters, construction materials and glass making.

Only one year after installation, the Slovenian producer of calcium carbonate filler, Calcit Lika d.o.o., can look back at energy savings of 15,800 Euros and a payback time of only two years on the smallest drives installed.

Calcit Lika d.o.o., a subsidiary of Slovenia-based Calcit d.o.o., which produces calcium carbonate fillers, granulated products and sands found almost everywhere, for example in paper, rubber, plasters, construction materials and glass making.

Mills require enegy intensive operation, so keeping costs down is important within the industry, and therefore the company commissioned a new installation of Danfoss VLT® in May 2012.

More than 27 VLT drives and soft starters for material extraction, fan, pump and conveyors applications - and the mill itself – were supplied. The drives run on 690V and were selected and configured in order to maximize efficiency.

Maintenance Technologist Gašper Muršak has calculated the savings figures and concludes: “In total, the Danfoss drives save us as much as 15,800 Euros per year on power losses alone, compared to the other solutions we looked at. In fact, this figure is higher as it does not include the energy savings related to cooling the installation room,” he says.

The largest feature is Danfoss’ patented back channel cooling concept, which exhausts heat losses outside the installation room. This enables Calcit Lika d.o.o. to reduce the amount of cooling needed inside the room and hence save costs.
