FROM A CITIZEN’S GARDEN WASTE TO FIELDS
The basis for AVA-Green´s work is the “waste”, citizens and companies hand in at recycling stations in Aarhus Municipality. It could be in the form of bricks, concrete, soil, garden waste etc.

Depending on the kind of material, AVA-Green then processes it by e.g. composting or crushing it. The repurposed produce is consequently sold to both individuals and companies and has been a sustainable addition to several major construction projects in Aarhus (see “Examples of AVA-Green supplies”).

INNOVATIVE POSSIBILITIES IN WASTE
On top of the production itself, AVA-Green also provides counselling for businesses looking for sustainable construction materials. Furthermore, AVA-Green seeks the market for new and alternative forms of recycled materials - and initiates testing new and innovative possibilities for using sustainable recycled materials in dialogue and collaboration with employees, educational institutions, businesses, citizens, local authorities, etc. At the moment, they are looking into the possibility of crushing hard plastic for recycling purposes.

THE VISION OF AVA-GREEN
The overall objective of the project is to support recycling of waste products from the municipality of Aarhus and to support Aarhus as a circular urban society.

The prerequisite of the project is a circular economic business model - that is, a business model that ensures less environmental impact while at the same time economically profitable.

FACTS:

  • Each year, around 140,000 tons of waste are delivered to the recycling stations in Aarhus Municipality. Of these, an average of 88% were recycled.

EXAMPLES OF AVA-GREEN PRODUCTS:

  • Soil for the green roof on Moesgaard Museum. The green roof can withhold rainwater and the thick soil layer insulates well, so energy consumption is kept down.
  • Construction materials for a recycling centre in Malling in the South of Aarhus Municipality.
  • 4,500 tons of top dressing on 60 football fields in Aarhus.
