Wave-powered desalination unlocks freshwater access – sustainably and off-grid

To meet rising global demand for freshwater, Danish company Exowave offers an innovative solution that combines renewable wave energy with scalable desalination. With the launch of their Spring 2026 campaign, Exowave provides limited-time discounts on their ExoMare systems and Water-as-a-Service contracts, making sustainable freshwater more accessible than ever.

From island communities to military outposts, reliable access to clean water is essential—and often difficult to secure. As climate change, energy costs and water scarcity accelerate, the need for flexible and zero-emission desalination has never been clearer.

Modular desalination powered by the ocean itself

Exowave’s ExoMare is a family of decentralized desalination units powered by sea wave energy. Designed for off-grid and remote locations, the ExoMare concept combines multiple offshore wave energy converters with a single reverse osmosis filtration system to produce high-quality drinking water – all without relying on conventional power sources.

Installed close to the shoreline at 3 meters of water depth, each wave energy converter supplies pressurized seawater directly to a land-based or floating desalination unit. The system is scalable, with production capacities ranging from 4 to 20 m³/day per unit and is engineered for long service intervals and a 20-year product lifespan

Applications include:

  • Utilities and agriculture
  • Resorts and hospitality
  • Military and humanitarian installations
  • Islands, ports and remote coastal communities

Campaign Spring 2026: Making water independence more affordable

Through April 2026, Exowave is offering a time-limited discount on all ExoMare systems. The campaign applies both to direct system purchases and Water-as-a-Service (WaaS) contracts, which offer fixed pricing of 3 €/m³ for a 7-year period.

  • 35% discount on purchases
  • 20% discount on WaaS contracts

This offer makes wave-powered desalination not only clean, but also competitively priced compared to fossil-powered alternatives. Financing is available in cooperation with the Danish Export Credit Agency (EIFO), enabling organisations worldwide to invest in sustainable water infrastructure with reduced upfront costs.

Designed in Scandinavia, built for global need

ExoMare’s plug-and-play nature allows easy deployment from shore with minimal environmental footprint. Its modular, low-noise, zero-emission setup runs day and night without fuel or grid connection, offering a sustainable alternative for areas with limited infrastructure.

As the world shifts towards climate-resilient water solutions, Exowave’s ExoMare campaign demonstrates how wave energy can play a vital role in securing tomorrow’s freshwater—today.
