World’s first dynamic power-to-ammonia facility inaugurated in Western Jutland

Today, the small village of Ramme in Western Jutland made global headlines by welcoming REDDAP; the world’s first dynamic green ammonia plant at a commercial scale of 10 MW.

The small village of Ramme in Western Jutland is now home to the world’s first dynamic green ammonia plant. Developed by Skovgaard Energy, Topsoe, and Vestas, the REDDAP Power-to-Ammonia facility was officially inaugurated on 26 August 2024, marking a significant milestone in the production of green ammonia as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels.

The inauguration and ribbon-cutting were witnessed by employees, partners, politicians and ministers, including Denmark’s Minister for Climate, Energy, and Utilities, Lars Aagaard, and Minister for Transport, Thomas Danielsen. As part of the opening of the facility, 1000 local citizens have been invited for a tour of the facility on August 27 2024 to get a glimpse of the green energy solutions of the future. This is part of a longer dialogue between the local community and the company, which has been undergoing for several years. The aim is that the facility will contribute to local activity, jobs and settlement in Ramme and the surrounding area.

The REDDAP facility, short for Renewable Dynamic Distributed Ammonia Plant, is one of the world’s biggest with a commercial scale of 10 MW. Utilising renewable energy from wind turbines and solar panels, the plant will produce more than 5,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually, preventing 8,200 tons of CO2 emissions each year. This process harnesses renewable energy directly to produce hydrogen, which is then converted into ammonia, offering a scalable and cost-effective solution that bypasses the need for energy storage systems like batteries or hydrogen storage.

About the REDDAP project

The REDDAP Power-to-Ammonia facility is a collaborative effort between Skovgaard Energy, Topsoe, and Vestas, with support from the EUDP. As the first dynamic green ammonia plant of its kind, it stands as a symbol of Denmark’s efforts in the green transition and a promising solution for reducing the carbon footprint of global industries.
