Challenge

In 2020, PKA invested EURO 123 million in the onshore wind farm, Escalade, located in Knox County, Texas.

The investment is made in cooperation with the independent direct infrastructure investment platform for institutional investors, AIP, originally established by PKA in 2012.

Worldwide, both public and private players must invest significantly in the green transformation to meet the challenges of climate change. Financial partnerships are crucial to enhance and finance solutions within sustainable energy, which will help accelerate a decarbonized world economy.

Solution

PKA aims to create financial benefits through partnerships that provide economies of scale and special competencies. It is a long-term and value-creating business model that PKA continuously wishes to strengthen.

The investment in the Escalade facility contributes to the green transformation in the United States, which needs a climate-friendly alternative to fossil fuels.

The partnership behind the investment consists of AIP co-investor PenSam, the Finnish Energy Fund Taaleri Energia, the French energy developer and operator Akuo Energy, and the investment company BHE Renewables as a tax equity partner.

Result

In 2021, a total of 65 windmills are in operation. The windmills are developed and will be maintained for the next 30 years by the global leader in sustainable energy solution, Vestas.

The wind farm is expected to produce renewable electricity corresponding to the annual consumption of 275,000 households
