Offshore Wind Energy
Offshore conditions for generating wind power are excellent and must be utilised.
Going offshore for more wind
Building, operating and maintaining offshore wind farms is considerably more expensive than onshore farms but the reward is higher wind speed and more stable wind conditions. Furthermore, with no immediate neighbours, fewer are bothered by issues of noise, shadows and reflection from the blades.
Offshore expertise available
The offshore sector in Denmark is large and contains a wide range of services and technologies that ensure the planning, production, installation and maintenance of offshore wind farms. Danish companies also have expertise within the transportation of both goods and personnel just as safety is a key aspect in the offshore sector.
Denmark – A first-mover in offshore wind
It is estimated that 90 per cent of the world's offshore wind turbines are either Danish produced or have Danish developed foundations and components. In 1991, Denmark became the first country in the world to commission an offshore wind farm and with more than 260 companies in the supply chain, Denmark is a wind power hub.
