Landfill and soil remediation

Soil pollution is a global environmental problem with negative impacts on our groundwater, ecosystems and CO2 emissions as poor quality soil absorbs less carbon. Urbanisation, population growth, intensive food production and lack of drinking water have increased the urgency for innovative soil remediation measures and limiting landfills to a minimum. In Denmark, a ban on landfill of waste suitable for incineration or recycling means that less than 5 percent of all waste is landfilled. In already contaminated areas, soil remediation measures are implemented to remove pollution. Many of these can easily be put into practice across the globe.
