Kalundborg is known for its large biotech- and energy production. In addition, there is a significant investment and already realized development on the way to a strong educational and research position. Kalundborg is thus in business, education, and research – a significant engine of growth in the Danish economy.

As a geographical area, Kalundborg already has many prerequisites for further realizing its leading position as a host for one of the biggest biotech clusters in Northern Europe: Large companies with production where biotech is the special catalyst, and fermentation for several of the companies is an essential part of their production method, an increasing number of energy producing companies ,a port with great infrastructural opportunities and center for containers in eastern Denmark, a heavy knowledge environment and markedly sustainable, green, intelligent solutions are among Kalundborg ’s existing, unique positions of strength.

The very special element for Kalundborg as a business and growth area is the cooperation – partnership – between the actors – the public and private companies. The Kalundborg Symbiosis here represents the special steppingstone that the many actors today can build on: A partnership between today 14 public and private companies, which together since 1972 have developed the world’s first industrial symbiosis with a circular approach to production, and initiatives for being Carbon neutral is already being implemented.
