DESMI Active in Removing Plastic from the Ocean

The Ocean Cleanup, based in the Netherlands, has launched a containment boom to be tested in the North Sea. The boom, which is 100 m long, is designed, produced and delivered by DESMI.

DESMI is proud to be part of this project that supports the values, which DESMI considers important. DESMI has a history going  more than 180 years back and for more than 30 years, DESMI has delivered equipment for spill collection.

“Plastic in the world oceans is a serious problem and we want to be involved in initiatives that can remove this plastic from the ocean in the future. It is our future and the future of our children and grandchildren that we need to think about”, says Henrik Sørensen, CEO of the DESMI group.

Globally, DESMI has been involved in several projects within spill collection over the years. Whether it is about spill collection at sea or in rivers, DESMI is an active player.

Henrik Sørensen, CEO of the DESMI group and Henrik Knudsen, CEO of DESMI Ro-Clean took part in the launch of the boom in the Netherlands today, and the fight against plastic in the oceans has begun.

During the launch, Henrik Sørensen gave a speech and talked about how a young and entrepreneurial organisation like The Ocean Cleanup and an experienced organization like DESMI is a good match. The right attention has been given to the project - cleaning oceans of plastic, and Henrik Sørensen concluded:

“This is a good cocktail. Cleaner oceans, better environment and two fantastic companies joining forces – I am sure that this will be a huge success for humans, animals, and our global environment”.
