Denmark to Strengthen Export of Urban Solutions

The new initiative "Urban Solutions" is a network consisting of the Danish Trade Council, companies, city developers, investors and organisations who together will showcase Danish strongholds in urban solutions to international stakeholders. The network is a result of increased global demand for green and intelligent solutions in areas such as green construction, infrastructure, water, heat and waste management in the world's major cities.

- By the year 2050, three billion people will move to cities around the world. It creates a pressure on the cities to ensure clean water, good infrastructure, green spaces and efficient waste management to their inhabitants. Danish companies and organisations has a lot of knowledge in this field. Therefore, Denmark is now focused on matching the global urban challenges with Danish solutions. Through global presence and with the new network of Danish companies, organisations, cities and investors, Denmark will showcase solutions to the world’s cities and to increase exports, says Anders Samuelsen, The Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs.

This networking platform will make Danish urban solutions more visible and share knowledge with international stakeholders interested in learning more about sustainable solutions for urban development.

Executive Director, Finn Mortensen from State of Green also supports the initiative:

- Danish cities, companies and advisors are famous for their expertise in green solutions. This means that international policy and commercial decision makers has no doubt that the competencies in the areas of energy, resource and climate-related urban solutions can be found in Denmark. There is a huge export potential in green solutions for cities. Worldwide, we are talking about a need for investments of thousands of billions of dollars in the coming years.

During the launch today, CEO of C40, Mark Watts spoke about the many possibilities for Danish companies within solutions for urbanisation. C40 is the world's leading climate network.

- C40's member cities are at the forefront of the fight against climate change globally. C40 has recently opened an office in Copenhagen, as it is an obvious place for our organisation to be present. The cooperation between the City of Copenhagen and Danish companies on the development of solutions to climate issues shows a strong leadership. Whether we are talking about urban planning, cycling infrastructure or green energy, Copenhagen and the Danish companies inspire other cities around the world to be more ambitious in dealing with climate change.
