The brewer has cut 5% off its annual utility costs thanks to Scanenergi Solutions’ EMiS software.

The Scanenergi Solutions EMiS software enabled the brewing giant to identify an average of 20 energy saving initiatives at each of its five domestic production facilities, without any investment in in-house hardware or software. The scale of the savings achieved enabled the brewery to achieve project payback in under 12 months.

"A KPI report at 08.00 every Monday morning shows how each facility is performing against our targets. No longer are we chasing the sites for this information and having to spend time separating the excuses from the reality", Engineering manager.

"What we can measure, we can control, and what we can control, we can improve", Engineering manager.

Benefits of EMiS

Following a review of several energy management software systems, the brewer chose Scanenergi Solutions’ EMiS software. The brewer based its decision not only on Scanenergi Solutions’ substantial experience in the brewing industry and successful track record in two of their other breweries, but also on the fact that the software:

  • Uses a web-based system, enabling easy expansion across all brewing operations
  • Is cost-effective to upgrade
  • Features comprehensive targeting capabilities

As well as the considerable cost savings achieved, the EMiS software has delivered an array of other tangible benefits for the brewer, including:

  • Full data transparency, enabling the brewer to see exactly where costs are coming from, and take action accordingly
  • True performance management, facilitating the accurate prediction of future performance based on real-life results, and the comparison of current performance with previous data
  • Ease of data collection, including meter readings via PDA, automatic data uploads from local SCADA systems, automatic weather data upload and automatic production volume uploads
  • Strong foundation for continuous improvement and lean energy thinking (Total Productive Maintenance)

Continuing collaboration

The brewer’s energy efficiency initiative is now well into phase 2, with the additional investment in metering providing full transparency of energy use.

The implementation of the EMiS software has also helped the annual budgeting process, while providing all the utility information required to help drive the energy element of the brewer’s TPM framework.

The partnership between Scanenergi Solutions and the brewing giant has extended beyond the supply and support of utility management software.

Since 2010, Scanenergi Solutions has been supporting the brewer in numerous CO2 reduction projects, as well as providing strategic guidance to supply chain companies on energy efficiency investment priorities across the Western European business.
