Economic growth has lifted historically many people out of poverty and given millions of people access to material goods to an unprecedented extent. This is really positive. However, increasing wealth and more people having access to a standard of living comparable to what we know in Denmark mean that our consumption of natural resources is very high. It also means that we must view our consumption with a more critical eye.

Circular economy is all about making growth sustainable. It means using our natural resources and designing our products in a way that extracted raw materials are used as sensibly and as many times as possible. By using less materials and increasing recycling rates, enterprises can get more value out of less. Also, a transition to a more circular economy is an important and necessary step of action for contributing ambitiously to the attainment of the 17 UN Global Goals.
