Leitra and Velomobile EuroTours plan their next tour for 2016
It's that time once again when Leitra and velomobile-eurotours.org begin planning long-distance velomobile tours through Europe for 2016. We continue a growing yearly tradition of an early seasonal tour/pilgrimage to visit the SPEZI Special bikes show in Germersheim, Germany which is held every year on the last weekend in April.
Velomobile riders from all over Europe are invited in joining Carl Georg Rasmussen - creator and developer of the Leitra velomobile, and the longest running producer of modern velomobiles - along with other regular riders from Scandanavia and Germany in travelling by velomobile from Copenhagen, Denmark to Germersheim, Germany on a two-week tour.
From Copenhagen, the tour starts on April 15th and with average daily distances of 150-160 km (some days more, some days less) the group will arrive on the evening of April 22nd, ready to attend the bike show over the weekend. Riders from all over Europe have expressed interest in joining the tour along the way, so we expect participation to grow a bit by the time they arrive in Germersheim. Some riders will support the Leitra stand at the show, sharing information about Leitra and about the tour itself, while others may join in supporting their favored velomobile manufactuer and enjoy the event.
During the tour, participants will encounter (or endure) various levels of cycling infrastructure, terrain, and scenery as they travel through Denmark and Germany. A few key stopping points will be suggested to provide sightseeing opportunities and possibly media coverage events to improve the exposure of velomobiles as a viable transportation solution for short and long distances.
After enjoying the sights and events surrounding strange, wonderful, and practical uses of cycling during that weekend, the group then returns home in the direction of Copenhagen through scenic Germany.
If you would like to 'ride along', bear in mind that this is an unsupported tour - each rider is responsible for his own food, accomodation, and velomobile maintenance. This tour is not a race or marathon, but a means of highlighting the speed, efficiency, and comfort that velomobiles offer as a solution for sustainable transportation. Riders from all walks of life and all fitness levels are expected to join the tour. Some will ride in groups for camaraderie or support, while others will travel at their own pace. Speeds typically average from 25-45 km/h.
