District metering with MAG8000 & READy Gateway
Kamstrup’s new solution for district metering allows water utilities to section their distribution network and thus target their troubleshooting.
“Often, it will be possible to lower the pressure in the distribution network – either permanently or for periods of time. This results in lower operational expenses and energy costs as well as significantly less water loss, as a pressure reduction will reduce the overall network leakage level. Additionally, the registration of harmful pressure surges means that water utilities will be able to identify and eliminate the sources, thereby minimising the risk of damages to the network” says Ricki Korsholm, Product Group Manager at Kamstrup.
Analysis of water waste and night time consumption with the use of district metering
A Kamstrup solution for district- and sectional metering consists of a magnetic inductive water meter (Siemens MAG8000), which is connected to a READy Gateway communication unit from Kamstrup. This solution gives you the opportunity to split the distribution network into sections and analyse the water waste and night consumption etc.
The communication unit comes with the same radio technology as Kamstrup’s meters. Data is transmitted through a READy network together with the consumption data and pressure measurements from the utility’s other meters. The data is continuously available in the READy Manager for further processing and analysis. The transmission of data can be done as often as every 5 minutes to secure a sufficient level of data to support continuous optimization and troubleshooting.
High quality and accuracy
One of the many advantages is that the water meter maintains the same high level of accuracy throughout its lifetime. A low starting flow secures precise metering even when the water flow is low. Among other things, this makes the water meter suitable for analysis of the night time consumption. The solution is designed to protect against water ingress. Therefore, the meter is suitable for installations in wells that are frequently filled with water. Furthermore, meter is a static meter without movable parts, which makes it very resistant to sediments and particles in the water. This secures a long lifetime and high accuracy and precision.
