The idea behind the future Energy, Climate and Natural Environment Park is to create a unique recreational landscape which is open to the public and has a clear educational purpose. The Park has been commissioned by the Danish utility consortium Hillerød Forsyning, and it will bring together all the consortium’s activities and functions, namely energy production, water purification, resource recycling and climate change adaptation initiatives.
Following a tender round, Hillerød Forsyning has selected Gottlieb Paludan Architects (GPA) to develop and plan the 51-hectare site: landscaping, including a wetland, and designing the consortium’s new headquarters. The consultancy team includes sub consultants Sloth Møller and water experts Krüger.
GPA has the task of designing and realizing both the landscape plan and the new headquarters, demolishing existing buildings on the site, developing the relevant areas for the future technical installations, including a wastewater treatment plant and a recycling centre, and making the preparations for a future geothermal plant.
The natural focal point for the Energy, Climate and Natural Environment Park will be the various utilities and a large wetland area where the consortium’s new 3,000-m2 headquarters will be built. Landscape solutions for rainwater handling and intelligent integration of the technical installations will play their part in making this an excursion spot for local residents, associations, and schools as well as a new nature reserve attracting wildlife, flora and fauna.
The Energy, Climate and Natural Environment Park will showcase the possibilities of attracting attention to many of the basic functions of society, rather than making attempts at hiding them. Hillerød Forsyning wants to highlight our everyday relationship with resources and with this new venture, the consortium will become a leader in the provision of sustainable utilities.
