ISO certification promotes export opportunities

Many food companies find that private as well as public customers from both Denmark and abroad increase their demand for documentation. For example the food companies experience increased environmental requirements and higher demands for proof of sustainability, traceability of ingredients, evidence of verifications and documentation for a healthy and safe working environment.

Paradoxically, Danish companies have experienced higher food safety requirements and requirement to be ISO certified for export to China, where companies in Denmark otherwise are believed to be further ahead with regard to environmental concern and safety.

In response to the fact that many Danish food companies still do not have an ISO certificate prooving that they fulfil requirements concerning quality, safety and environment, EU has started funding a course called "ECOFood".

ECOFood allows food companies and companies in the metal industry producing goods that are in contact with food to participate in so-called physical master classes and e-learning courses preparing the compnaies for ISO certification. Each company pays only 2,000 DKK to participate, and they can decide whether their course should last from 3 or up to 11 months.

European House of Quality teaches at ECOFood. Furthermore, European House of Quality provides the IT system "Sherlock Web" and hosting free of charge in the process.
