North Harbour, Northern Europe’s largest new urban development area, is an example of future sustainable urban areas. Our vision is that North Harbour with its potential 40,000 inhabitants and 40,000 work places will at least be carbon neutral in the energy area – and in time, export sustainable energy to the rest of Copenhagen.

Integrated energy system
The energy system is a lighthouse project for North Harbour. It is to demonstrate future sustainable energy systems, which, combined with other green initiatives, should position Copenhagen as a centre of green growth and a display window for green technologies.

For the area to become carbon neutral, we need to create solutions that are both environmentally and economically sustainable. We will achieve this by basing the energy supply on several sustainable energy sources and by focusing on buildings and installations to obtain carbon neutrality in the most profitable way.

New technology and interaction with existing solutions
We are looking for partners who can spearhead the development but also partners who can deliver the overall systems as well as the many single components. Regarding energy supply, we expect to combine a number of different energy sources; such as wind, geothermal and solar energy with heat stores in a single energy system. At the same time, all new buildings should be constructed to be low-energy consuming.
