Alderman Kristian Würtz had to duck a little when entering the basement of Valdemarsgade 31, where the first meter in the latest round of tenders was put into action. "Even though we are pleased, we need to control our excitement a little," he quipped, with reference to the low ceiling.

But that was unable to prevent the satisfaction on his face and those of the representatives of Kamstrup in attendance. Knud Bonde, Divisional Director of Kamstrup made it perfectly clear how important the project is to his company:

"This project is state of the art within intelligent supply grids. Kamstrup is proud to be the backbone of the most visionary district heating grid in the world. Many other towns and cities around the world will be keeping an eye on Aarhus as the demonstration site within district heating, making this project one that will reinforce Kamstrup's position on the global market,” said Bonde.

Alderman Würtz stressed that a project like this is highly significant to Aarhus on several levels: One goal is Aarhus becoming CO2-neutral in 2030. Another is to create strong partnerships between City of Aarhus and cleantech companys to gain worldclass projects.

"Aarhus has a clear-cut target of becoming CO2-neutral by 2030. A grid from which we can gather data on energy, consumption and operation is a massive aid towards reaching our climate target. What's more, I am delighted that this project means that we can say that Aarhus is now the owner of a world-class demonstration project within district heating. The fact that it also means jobs and growth for the region is a bonus."
