Vejle wants to create the wastewater treatment plant of the future

The project is going to explore possiblities on how green waste can be transformed into green energy. The vision is that biogas will eventually be used as fuel in municipal vehicles, such as renovation cars and city buses in Vejle.

Vejle treatment plants today have unused capacity on their so-called rotten tanks, where the excess sludge from wastewater treatment - and eventually organic waste - is converted into fertilizers and where biogas is produced. Overcapacity, which can now be utilized to produce additional green energy, is primarily due to the fact that the load from industry has declined over the years.

Positive results

The results have so far been very positive. The project has come well from start, and nothing seems to slow down either process or vision. The next step will be to conduct a series of technical pilot trials at the treatment plant, where the analyzes will be translated into reality and partly to involve the citizens through a series of campaigns and development initiatives.
