URBAN DESIGN OF THE YEAR: VINGE TRAIN STATION

The LEAF Awards are presented by the association of European architects, Leading European Architects Forum, which has recognised innovative architectural projects with awards since 2002.

Vinge Train Station, expected to be complete in 2017, is part of a large urban development plan to connect the future city to regional public transit. Covering 370 hectares, Vinge City is the largest urban project in Denmark. In the middle of the new town plan, the circular station adapts organically to its surroundings and forms the point of departure of the new city development.

The fundamental idea is to develop a new town where natural elements are not simply added at the end, but integrated from the beginning of the town’s development. The new regional train station is an important component of this holistic approach. The regional train station has been designed to function as the heart of the development, and to unify the movements of landscape and city.

Henning Larsen Architects also won a LEAF Award for Best Sustainable Development of the Year 2015 for SDU Campus Kolding. Previously, Henning Larsen Architects has received five LEAF Awards in different categories.
