Water supply

The Waterworks of the Future Opens in Western Jutland

Waterworks of the future, the world over will have to be more energy-efficient, have lower water losses and be able to supply high-quality bacteria-free drinking water. This is exactly what the Aquatarium waterworks in Ringkøbing-Skjern municipality guarantees.

This ultra-modern waterworks is part of the Fremtidens drikkevandsforsyning (Drinking water supplies of the future) showcase project made possible by support from among others the Environmental Technology Development and Demonstration Programme under the Ministry of Environment and Food, which supports technology development for water and other areas.

-Aquatarium combines the very best in innovative water-technology solutions with a unique design. The result is a research and information centre for water-technology innovation which could be a magnet for researchers from Denmark and abroad. Denmark is a leader within water technology, and our expertise can be exported to the rest of the world, which is thirsting for energy-efficient water-supply solutions, said Esben Lunde Larsen, Minister for Environment and Food.

The state-of-the-art, architect-designed waterworks will also act as an information centre at which schools, the business community and other stakeholders can learn about advanced development projects.

Research increases exports
In the longer term, the Aquatarium will not only supply water to half of Ringkøbing-Skjern municipality, it will also be a centre for innovation at which research institutions, water utilities and businesses can test new water-technology products that can contribute to increasing exports of Danish water technology.

-Globally, the market for more energy-efficient and water-saving solutions is seeing strong growth. Danish exports of water technology to China have trebled since 2006, and in the same period, we have doubled our exports to the US. There is great potential in the water area and we must continue research and development so that Denmark can help secure a better environment in the countries buying our solutions, said Esben Lunde Larsen.

The opening will be on Monday 2 May 2016 at 1:45-2:45 p.m. at Aquatarium, Herningvej 135 in Ringkøbing, Denmark. The press are welcome.
