Partnerships will strengthen Denmark’s position within green shipping

The Ministry for Climate, Energy and Utilities, the Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs and Danish Shipping are set to collaborate on important topics for a more green shipping industry.
The new public-private partnership will strengthen cooperation between stakeholders and dialogue across the Blue Denmark to create growth and promote Denmark’s position as a green shipping nation.

FACTS ABOUT THE DANISH MARITIME SECTOR

Denmark is one of the world’s leading maritime nations, and Blue Denmar is on of Denmark’s strongest business sectors.

  • The maritime sector employed more than 102,000 people in 2020. This corresponds to 3.5 pct. of the total employment in Denmark.
  • Production within maritime was DKK 407 billion in 2020. This represents 10 pct. of the total Danish production.
  • Value creation in the form of income generated by production in 2020 was DKK 113 billion, or 5.6 pct. of the total economy.

DENMARK IS IN FOREFRONT ON BOTH THE GREEN TRANSITION AND THE MARITIME INDUSTRY.

International shipping is an important industry, facilitating global trade and transporting people around the world. At the same time, it produces large amounts of greenhouse gas emissions – comparable in scale to industrialized nations such as Germany or Japan – and is a significant source of air pollution. Urgent action is required to reduce emissions in a sustainable manner.

Denmark prides itself on a position of international leadership within renewable energy, with a sustainable value chain that stretches from producing green electricity, with e.g. wind turbines or bio-energy, to storing and distributing it. And more is to come, as Denmark recently co-signed one of the most ambitious declaration on renewable energy ever at the North Sea Summit in Esbjerg.

Danish green, maritime technologies and solutions are developed through close cooperation and partnerships between our leading shipping companies, equipment manufacturers, shipyards, knowledge institutions and public agencies. Constantly seeking common interests and bringing together unique knowledge this way of cooperating has contributed to strong Danish positions e.g. within areas of environment, climate and several other areas. It ensures innovative and competitive easy-to-integrate solutions that work in practice.

Invest in Denmark are here to facilitate this cooperation. Invest in Denmark helps foreign company interact with the partnership, by facilitating the network with shipping companies, knowledge institutions and other agents. PARTNERSHIP IN THE INDUSTRY

ShippingLab and Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping shows how companies can work together to reduce carbon emissions from global shipping. By being part of either institution, companies within the maritime industry can collaborate on finding the future of green shipping.
