In addition to inviting new businesses to join shared office facilities with focus on sustainable urban development and energy solutions, the partners behind the EnergyLab Nordhavn project have established a showroom that presents the solutions they develop in the living urban laboratory. More specifically, these are premises of 1,200 m2 with room for 30 businesses at Sundkaj in Nordhavn, Copenhagen. In addition to access to a large network of leading Danish energy and technology companies, the businesses will receive international exposure and, not least, an office in the area where most of the physical demonstrations in the project will take place.

The EUDP-supported project has been running for two and a half years. During this period, EnergyLab Nordhavn has experienced overwhelming international interest. There has been great interest in the technical solutions, and the entire collaboration and partnership are attracting equally strong attention. The project has gathered some of Denmark's leading public and private players in sustainable energy and urban environments in a completely unique collaboration. The project primarily focuses on development of the solutions that are to characterize the energy systems of the future, which will include a far higher proportion of renewable energy than we are seeing today. At the same time, these are exportable solutions, which can thus contribute to meeting the total Danish green growth potential of between DKK 148 and 271 billion a year up to 2035.

With the establishment of EnergyHub, we have a unique opportunity to convert highly qualified research and innovation from DTU into business activities and growth in both start-ups and established businesses, which will be housed in EnergyHub, located in the middle of Nordhavn. This is completely in line with DTU’s mission to benefit society,” says Anders Bjarklev, President of DTU.  

“In CPH City & Port Development’s work to develop Nordhavn as the new sustainable district of Copenhagen, the collaboration in EnergyLab Nordhavn plays an important role. In these years, Nordhavn is being converted from an industrial area into a modern, mixed urban district with dwellings and workplaces, and the many projects under EnergyLab Nordhavn are implemented in a number of building projects. The projects benefit the day-to-day work of the tenants and employees, and we concurrently gather knowledge that we can use in our ongoing work with sustainable urban development,” says CEO Jens Kramer Mikkelsen, CPH City & Port Development.

EnergyLab Nordhavn is a four-year project aimed at developing the energy solutions of the future. The project uses Nordhavn as a living urban laboratory to demonstrate how electricity, heating, energy-efficient solutions, and electrical transport can be incorporated into an intelligent, flexible, and optimized energy system.

EnergyHub is an innovation environment for start-ups and a satellite for established businesses, organizations, and other players engaged in innovation in the field of sustainable urban development and energy solutions. There will be room for 70 workstations in the office environment and showroom of more than 1,200 m2 at Pakhus 47, Sundkaj, in Nordhavn.
