Danish Export Boom in Green Energy Technologies

The 2013 statistics for Danish export of energy technologies in 2013 have been released by the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Building and the Danish Energy Industries Federation. The numbers show that total export of energy technologies has increased during the past 3 years in Denmark, now reaching just 3% below the record year of 2008.

Notably, it was export of green energy technologies that drove the increase in 2013. With a rise of 17,6% it marked the highest increase ever for Denmark. In comparison, growth in total export of combined goods was 2%.

“The numbers are impressive. The future increasingly demands solutions for production of sustainable energy and better utilisation of the energy produced. Danish companies have exceptional skills in these areas. The numbers illustrate how the political decision to covert our energy system creates new possibilities for Danish companies. It underlines the importance of a stabile energy policy, says Minister for Climate, Energy and Building Rasmus Helveg Petersen.

European market and BRICS countries

The increase in export was largely attributed to growth in the European market, where export of energy technologies to Germany nearly doubled last year. Germany now accounts for 22,8% of the total Danish export of energy technologies making it the largest export market for Denmark in this area. Export to EU countries increased by EUR 940 million to a total of EUR 5,90 billion.

Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa accounted for EUR 920 million of Danish exports of energy technologies, which is nearly 25% more than in 2012.

The Danish energy sector is a growth engine

In total, Danish energy technologies account for 10,8% of combined goods export. This figure marks the greatest share among EU countries.

“An increase in export of energy technologies of nearly 11% in 2013 is a great leap for the sector. It demonstrates that the Danish energy sector is a growth engine for Denmark,” says Director of the Danish Energy Industries Federation Hans Peter Slente.
