State of Green will welcome the participants and set the scene for today’s programme

State of Green is a not-for-profit, public-private partnership from Denmark. We seek to foster relations with international stakeholders interested in discussing their challenges and bring into play relevant Danish solutions that enable the green transition.

State of Green will then present the historic development in the Danish renewable energy production.

The Danish Energy Agency will give their remarks on frameworks and local involvement

The Danish Energy Agency is responsible for tasks linked to energy production, supply and consumption, as well as Danish efforts to reduce carbon emissions. The Agency is also responsible for supporting the economical optimisation of utilities. Through close partnerships and government-to-government cooperation with 19 countries, the Danish Energy Agency seeks to accelerate global emission reductions by sharing lessons learned from the Danish Energy Model.

Port of Esbjerg

Esbjerg once had Denmark's biggest fishing harbor but is now knows for its numerous activities within off-shore wind and the harbor remains an economic driving force in the town. Besides the fishing industry Esbjerg is also the main city for Denmark's oil and offshore activities. Companies like Maersk, Ramboll, Stimwell Services, ABB, Schlumberger, COWI and Atkins all have offshore related activities in the city.

The delegation will go on a bus tour around the port to learn about how it has transitioned its on-site industries and jobs into supporting a green future. Passing through areas such as turbine pre-assembly, loading docks, jack-up ships and component storage the bus will stop at selected sites for the delegation to get out to better experience the scale. At the end of the port tour, the delegation will make a pitstop at the two off-shore V164 8MW demonstration turbines installed just outside the port area.

The two test turbines neighboring the Port of Esbjerg will be connected to a small PtX production facility. It is operated by European Energy who is also developing one of the world’s largest PtX facilities close to Sønderborg.

European Energy is developing, constructing, operating, managing and divesting renewable energy projects. Their core business is built on energy from the sun and the wind and the company have moved into development of Power-to-X solutions by producing green hydrogen and e-methanol to fuel the transportation sector.

HØST PtX Esbjerg, powered by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, is a leading, Danish Power-to-X (PtX) project, deploying large-scale industrial use of electrolysis-technology on GW-level to produce ammonia. The ammonia plant will be powered by green electricity from renewables, harvesting the kinetic energy from wind and solar. Based on this CO2-free production process, HØST PtX Esbjerg will be able to offer green ammonia to the market for use in fertilizers and in fuels. HØST PtX Esbjerg is opening the door to decarbonization of hard-to-abate sectors such as shipping, agriculture and industrial applications. Excess heat from the plant will be used for district heating of app. 15,000 households, reducing the carbon footprint of the local utility company, DIN Forsyning. Moreover, the 1GW plant is the ideal, green offtake companion to the continued build-out of low-cost, renewable electricity generation capacity in the North Sea.
