Recyclable housing

Circle House consists of 60 new social housing estates designed according to a circular concept. The goal is that 90% of the construction will be recycleable without losing significant value, therefore making recycleable housing possible. Circle house will be the first major recycleable housing project in Denmark.

The increasing attention on resource consumption and the responsibility for future generations poses new demands and requirements for client consultancies and new constructions to reflect an integration of social responsibility and financial circumstances. Circle House is an example of this. Here, the construction will function as a demonstration building to provide insights regarding recycleable housing development. The project will demonstrate how sustainability and financial gain can go hand in hand to inspire future recycleable constructions. Thus trying to ensure even more housing built following the circular concept, reducing CO2 emissions, has lower maintenance costs and is recyceable.

Circular construction must be scalable

Specifically, the building will consist of 60 homes in combination with townhouses and tower blocks, located in Lisbjerg outside Aarhus, Denmark. The properties are expected to be completed by 2020, were the circular concept of recycleable housing will be visible to the public.

Orbicon provides design of structures and technical installations, as well as consultancy on DGNB/sustainability. In addition, Orbicon, along with other companies, participates in describing and demonstrating solutions making recycleable housing marketable and, thus, scalable ensuring the future implementation of circular concepts within the construction industry.

The project is supported by funding from the Danish EPA's Eco-Innovation Program (In Danish: MUDP - Miljøteknologisk Udviklings- og Demonstrationsprojekt).
