Danish Water Technology in Record High Demand

A strong demand for water technology is evident across the globe, and innovative Danish technological solutions that save water and spare the environment are sought after. Rising export of Danish solutions includes both large energy producing wastewater treatment plants, valves, pumps, pipes and measuring devices.

New figures published by research analysis agency Damvad for the Ministry of Environment and Food of Denmark show that export of water technology rose from DKK 15.9 billion (EUR 2.14 billion) in 2014 to a record-high DKK 16.8 billion (EUR 2.26 billion) in 2015.

This is a 6% increase, which is around three times higher than the overall growth in Danish export of around 2.1%.

“Export from Danish the water sector has increased significantly over the past years, and the performance of Danish water companies makes me very proud. Countries such as the U.S. and China have discovered Denmark’s capabilities, and China has trebled its import from Denmark in this area since 2006. I will now visit Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia to demonstrate why countries look towards Danish solutions, when they invest in new water technologies (…)”, says Minister for the Environment and Food Esben Lunde Larsen.

Water vision on track
The Danish Ministry of Environment and Food, the Danish water sector and the Confederation of Danish Industry has united around a water vision to double export of Danish water technology in 2025. According to the sector, this will enable the creation of 4,000 new jobs, and if the current trend in export continues at the same rate as last year, the vision will be reached.

“When the water sector collaborates closely around the development of new technology and promote their products through combined solutions, it makes them very attractive. The goal is to create more jobs in the Danish water sector and increased growth, and I am convinced that it is possible if Danish companies gain a solid foothold in the Southeast Asian market, explains the minister.

According to the report Global Water Market (2014), it is expected that Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia will invest heavily in new wastewater treatment plants, drink water supply and pump stations towards 2018.
